Liothyronine sodium is in the form of white or off-white powder. It is a synthetic sodium triiodothyronine and has a similar effect to thyroxine.
Pharmacological effects:
This product is a synthetic preparation that can be used as a substitute for endogenous thyroid hormone. Its pharmacological effects are similar to thyroxine, but its efficacy is 3 to 5 times that of endogenous thyroid hormone. It is well absorbed after oral administration and has a high protein binding rate. About 0.3% of this product exists in free form in the body. The half-life in blood is 1 to 2 days. If the thyroid function is low, the half-life will be prolonged. On the contrary, the half-life will be less than one day.
Indications:
It is used for patients with hypothyroidism and myxedema coma who need quick results, and can also be used for the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism.
Purpose:
A thyroid hormone produced by deiodination of the prohormone thyroxine (T4), it is an effective agonist of thyroid hormone receptors Trα and Trβ.
